ASEAN countries, the Middle East, Africa are new potential for local entrepreneurs – Nordin

KOTA KINABALU: Local entrepreneurs need to explore alternative platforms and markets to maintain business continuity following the United States (US)’s action of imposing reciprocal tariffs of up to 24 percent on this country.

The President of the ASEAN Chamber of Commerce Sabah Chapter (ACCI) Sabah, Datuk Nordin Ening agreed with the suggestion of ACCI Malaysia President, Datuk Sohaimi Shahdan that the identified markets have great potential for local entrepreneurs to explore.

He said this includes ASEAN countries involving Africa, Central Asia and West Asia.

“We need to look towards more open and stable markets which are ASEAN countries, the Middle East (West Asia), Central Asia and Africa.

“This is because they offer a huge space for Malaysian products, especially in the halal, food, technology and services, tourism and education sectors,” he said in a statement today.

Nordin said that ACCI Sabah is planning bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Sabah together with the Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment.

“Kazakhstan is a Double Landlocked country and its people are very thirsty for the beauty of the islands and beaches in Sabah.

“Currently there is a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Almaty, Kazakhstan to realize this proposal.

“The government needs to look at new markets to help Malaysian entrepreneurs,” explained Nirdin.

According to him, currently the United States market is no longer a market that can be relied upon for Malaysia.
