5 Killed in Twin Landslides in Papar

PAPAR: Five people were killed following two separate landslides that struck Kampung Mook and Kampung Marahang in Papar on Sunday.

Papar PKR division chief Roslee Malek said the tragedy was a heartbreaking incident that should not be politicised and called for collective action across political lines to address the disaster.

“I personally lost five Papar residents in this tragedy. It’s a deeply saddening event,” he said after handing over aid to families affected by the incident.

Roslee said the Prime Minister has directed the Director-General of the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) to immediately channel assistance to the affected families.

“God willing, aid under the MADANI government will reach all affected areas in Sabah very soon,” he added.

As of now, nearly 100 individuals have been relocated to temporary relief centres (PPS), with the number expected to rise if conditions worsen.

Roslee also said the aid distribution was carried out on behalf of the Sabah PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) chairman.

Also present were Kajang assemblyman David Cheong, Sabah MPN secretary Abdul Razak Jamil, and Sabah PKR election committee treasurer Datuk Nordin Ening.
