‘Don’t Betray Sabah Again’ – Lewis Wong Urges Federal Government to Respect 40 Percent Revenue Ruling

KOTA KINABALU – The Head of the Inanam Secretariat Movement, Lewis Wong, has warned that any attempt by the Federal Government to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s decision on Sabah’s 40 percent net revenue entitlement would be seen as a betrayal of the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He said the court’s ruling was not merely a legal judgment but a long-overdue recognition of the rights and dignity of the people of Sabah within the Federation of Malaysia.

“For decades, Sabahans have been denied the rights guaranteed under the Federal Constitution. This ruling proves that the Federal Government has both a moral and constitutional duty to fulfil those rights — there is no longer room for excuses,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Lewis stressed that if the government chooses to appeal the decision, it would only destroy the people’s trust in the sincerity of national leadership.

“An appeal is not a solution; it would be a denial of the promises made under MA63. Don’t repeat the mistakes of the past. Sabah has been patient long enough,” he said firmly.

He also urged the Federal Government to immediately implement the court’s decision and begin the review of revenue-sharing in accordance with the Federal Constitution.

“Sabah is not asking for more than what was promised. We only seek what is rightfully ours. The people want action, not more speeches. This is the time to show sincerity and rebuild trust,” he said.

Lewis added that honouring the court’s decision is a true test of the nation’s integrity and the government’s commitment to regional justice.

“The people of Sabah are watching. The rest of Malaysia is watching. Respect the judiciary, uphold MA63, and prove the spirit of unity through actions — not mere words,” he said.
